The roof drainage system is an important aspect of the overall roof design and the design process and the correct selection of materials can be complex. It is therefore recommended that the designer consults an MGMA member for advice - details can be found in the members’ section of the web site.
The MGMA plays an influential part in the raising of standards in building materials specification. Work in this field includes developing a performance specification for steel gutters and actively participating in the UK and CEN committees for European standards.

In an initiative to improve both knowledge and standards within the industry, the MGMA has published a comprehensive design guide Metal Gutters: The Guide and a series of supplementary data sheets designed to inform specifiers about the range of metal gutter systems available, their applications and good practice.
